STAFFORD, CT — Evergreen Health Care Center, a nursing home where three patients have died from the new coronavirus, had been offered by its parent company for use as a central location for confirmed positive cases, which in turn would have forced current residents to find another living facility. However, on Wednesday afternoon, family members began reporting they have been contacted and told the change will not happen.

The Connecticut Mirror had reported Athena Health Care Systems, parent company of Evergreen, had offered the facility, as well as another it owns in Sharon. Several frantic family members of Evergreen residents contacted Patch Wednesday, worried their loved ones would be driven out of the facility.

Later Wednesday afternoon, more families began reporting the health care agency had changed its plan, and Evergreen will not be used as a COVID-19 facility.
