Man Assaults Police Dog While Fleeing Arrest: Police

A man was arrested in Stafford on accusations he put a police dog in a headlock while fleeing from police.

STAFFORD, CT — State police have charged a man who fled and ended up putting a police dog in a headlock. Police said they received a report Saturday about a suspicious vehicle at a home.

When police arrived, the man fled. A police dog assisted troopers in tracking the man through several backyards, then across a road into a wooded area.

The man did not comply with police orders and attempted to run away again. Troopers then released the police dog who apprehended him.

As a trooper approached the man, he saw that the suspect had the police dog in a headlock. The police dog kept grip of the man until police were able to take him into custody.

The man was charged with use of a motor vehicle without permission, two counts of interfering, criminal attempt to assault a police K9, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was held on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday. Police later discovered he was on probationary release from previous cases.
