New Cumberland Farms Nearly Complete In Stafford
The store manager anticipates the new location will open sometime this week.

STAFFORD, CT — Contractors are putting the finishing touches on a new Cumberland Farms store and gas station, which will soon open on Route 190 at the corner of West Street, on the longtime site of Backus Motors.
Store manager Alan Stabile said he anticipates the new location will be ready to open "sometime this week," showcasing the "newest concept" in the Westborough, Mass.-based chain. Among the new features will be a kiosk system for ordering, standup open-air cases for fresh products, coolers near the cash registers and eventually self-checkouts. It will be the first Connecticut location to contain those features, Stabile said.
Eight regular gas pumps, plus two diesel pumps, will be in operation. When warmer weather sets in, outside seating will be available to patrons.

About 18 to 20 full-time and part-time employees will work at the new store, Stabile said. Upon its opening, the current Cumberland Farms on Route 32 will close.
"Our guests will have no interruption; as soon as this opens, the other will shut down," he said. "There has been a lot of buzz about this."
