Police Seek Car Which Fled From Stafford Traffic Stop

The operator of the car is wanted by authorities in Ohio on a warrant for identity theft, according to police.

STAFFORD, CT — State police are seeking a red Lincoln sedan with Ohio plates which fled from the scene of a traffic stop in Stafford Tuesday morning, and which contains a man for whom police in that state have a warrant for identity theft.

Around 9:35 a.m., troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Route 32 southbound for a seatbelt violation. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Troy Burgess, 25, of Stafford, and police discovered Burgess had a suspended license and a fully extraditable arrest warrant for identity theft in the state of Ohio, police said.

Accompanying Burgess in the car were a woman and two small children. As troopers and officers from the Stafford Police Department approached the vehicle in an attempt to make contact with Burgess, he placed the vehicle in reverse in an attempt to flee the scene. He then drove away at an extremely high rate of speed after nearly striking troopers and officers, police said.

The vehicle is described as a 2009 red Lincoln sedan, bearing Ohio registration HYL2576, with damage to the front left bumper area., according to police.
