Special Scholarship Created At Stafford High School
A one-time scholarship is being offered in memory of longtime Bulldog supporter Gary Mazzone.

STAFFORD, CT — One of Stafford High School's most avid supporters will be memorialized with a one-time scholarship in his name, open to any current senior who will be attending a 4-year college or university, a 2-year college or a trade school.
The Gary L. Mazzone Memorial Scholarship is named after the father of Bulldogs football coach Brian Mazzone. Gary Mazzone, 66, was one of seven people killed in the crash of a vintage World War II B-17 bomber plane at Bradley International Airport on Oct. 2, 2019. A retired captain from the Vernon Police Department, he then enjoyed a second career as an inspector with the chief state’s attorney’s office in Litchfield County.
The scholarship amount is $558.15, which was collected by high school students, faculty and staff during a No Shave November fundraiser. Preference will be given to seniors who participated in the football program, or are pursuing a career in criminal justice or forestry.
