Speeding Stop Leads To Drug Charges In Stafford

A speeding driver wound up having an extensive collection of drugs in his car, state police said.

STAFFORD, CT — A speeding driver wound up having an extensive collection of drugs in his car on Monday evening in Stafford, state police said.

At 7:15 p.m. on Monday, a Stafford resident trooper stopped a car for traveling 61 mph in a posted 45 mph zone on Route 30 near Handel Road, according to a report.

The trooper noticed the "distinct odor of fresh marijuana" coming from the car's glove box and located 3.5 ounces, a report indicates.

The trooper also discovered more than 25 grams of butane honey oil, THC e-cigarette cartidges, a scale, packaging material, more than $1,500 in cash and 16 THC-infused "gummies," according to a report.

The driver, 22-year-old Adam Fonseca, whose listed address is in Vernon, was charged with speeding, possessing a controlled substance and the sale of a controlled substance, according to a report.

He posted a $10,000 bond and is slated to appear in court on Dec. 30, records show.
