Victim of Fatal Willington Assault Identified [UPDATED]

The suspect is armed with an edged weapon and is considered dangerous, according to state police.

WILLINGTON, CT — State police are searching for the operator of a motorcycle who was seen leaving the scene of a serious assault in Willington shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, which resulted in the death of one man and serious injuries to another.

State police have identified Theodore Demers, 62, of Willington, as the man killed in the attack, which was reported around 9 a.m. on Mirtl Rd.

The unidentified suspect was operating a red sport-type motorcycle, and was wearing a red and white helmet and dark clothing. The suspect was armed with an edged weapon and is considered dangerous, state police said.

Around 3:20 p.m., state police radio communication indicated the motorcycle had been found at the end of Old Town Rd. in Willington, off Fermier Rd.

Lifestar helicopter was used to transport at least one of the victims to an area hospital.

Police advise anyone spotting the suspect to not approach, but rather to call 911. A police spokesman said the incident "appears to be isolated," and troopers have "no reason to believe anyone in the vicinity of the neighborhood is in any type of imminent harm."

The state police Eastern District Major Crime Squad was called to assist in the investigation, the spokesman said.
