United Bank 2018 Charitable Giving Topped $1.2 Million: Report

United Bank's 2018 charitable giving topped $1.2 million, according to a report released this week.

United Bank and its two charitable arms donated more than $1.2 million to nonprofit entities, student scholarship programs and corporate sponsorships in the Connecticut and Massachusetts communities served by the bank in 2018, according to a report released on Monday.

In 2018, the United Bank Foundation Connecticut and United Bank Foundation Massachusetts administered approximately $850,897 in grants and payments to more than 200 nonprofit organizations and student scholarship recipients, according topp the report.

In addition, United Bank’s Community Sponsorships Program, which is separate and distinct from its foundation giving, delivered $420,000 in donations to several other organizations and sponsored events in 2018, the report indicates.

Since 2005, the two foundations have together "invested" more than $10 million in the "nonprofit" community in Connecticut and Massachusetts, according to a report.

Some of the areas of focus for United Bank’s corporate giving and community partnerships are: neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, education, health and human services, various youth programs, according to the report.

In compliance with the federal Community Reinvestment Act, United Bank also gives special consideration to charitable investments that directly benefit disadvantaged or low-to-moderate income individuals, families and neighborhoods in cities and towns the bank serves. More than 55 percent of the bank’s total giving in 2018 was CRA eligible, according to the report.
