STAFFORD, CT — Today we inaugurate a new periodic series on Stafford-Willington Patch, highlighting young student-athletes who are considered "unsung heroes." They are not necessarily the big star, but rather one who works hard, is a good student, is a positive influence and strives for the betterment of his or her school and/or community.

Name: Sam Yefko
School: Stafford High School, grade 11
Sport: football
Nominated by: Sharon Yefko

"Sam plays football on the Stafford High School Bulldogs team. They went 10-0 for the first time this year. Sam is a good student with a solid B average. He is also a mentor for the Unified Sports and Unified Music programs at school. He plays the French horn and trumpet in the school band. He is currently working on his Eagle Scout designation with Boy Scout Troop 2 in Tolland. In addition to everything he does at school and outside of school, he is also a home health aide working for his disabled father, who had a major stroke in 2012. He is a hard-working, caring, compassionate person and someone I could not be prouder of."
