Warrant Released On Gun Caper At Stafford Pawn Shop

A warrant has been released in he case of Vernon men charged in a Stafford stolen gun incident.

VERNON/STAFFORD, CT — State police have released a warrant outlining details of a theft involving several guns from Pawn shop in Stafford.

The Sept. 27 theft was at the Simon Says Pawn Shop, 44 West Stafford Road. A front glass door was broken with a heavy object, and smashed glass was strewn about the entryway, according to the warrant.

The guns were in a glass display case, according the the warrant.

The theft involved Vernon men.

Adam Miller, 27, and Jonathan McEwan, 30, have been charged by state police with 16 felonies:

  • Conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary
  • Conspiracy to steal firearms (seven counts)
  • Criminal possession of a firearm (seven counts)
  • Conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief

Damien Garcia, 32, has been charged by state police with:

  • Third-degree burglary
  • Possession of Burglar Tools
  • First-degree criminal mischief
  • Stealing a firearm (7 counts)
  • Criminal possession of a firearm (7 counts)

Vernon police also have charged McEwan with:

  • Violation of state pistol permit requirements
  • Sixth-degree larceny
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Use of drug paraphernalia
  • Interfering

Garcia was charged in Vernon with:

  • Third-degree burglary
  • Sixth-degree larceny

Garcia is protrayed as the main antagonist. He was seen in surveillance cameras inside the store, according to a warrant. He is known to police as being "heavily involved with drugs," and the "Los Solidos Gang," according to a warrant. One witness account "insinuated" that he wanted guns to "settle a beef," but many of them, were sold, according to the warrant.

According to the warrant, MIller drove McEwan and Garcia to the pawn shop and then back to Vernon.

Some of the guns were sold for $300 to $600, according to the warrant.

An informant led police to the men two days later in Vernon, records show.

After a Vernon foot chase incolving Garcia and 37-year-old Lawrence McEwan, the latter was chared with:

  • Violation of state pistol permit requirements
  • Sixth-degree larceny
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Use of drug paraphernalia
  • Interfering

All are currently in the midst of court proceedings and are due back before judges this month, records show.

Garcia and Lawrence McEwan have been also been charged by a federal criminal complaint with firearms offenses.
