Car Hits Boulder in Tolland Crash: Report

A car hit a boulder after a passing attempt went awry, state police said.

TOLLAND, CT — A car slammed into a boulder on state Route 31 in Tolland last week in an instance of illegal passing, state police said.

State police recently released a report on the Sept. 10 crash.

According to a report, at 11:03 a.m., a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 69-year-old Coventry resident was heading north on Mile Hill Road, the local name for that section of Route 31.

A 2009 Toyota Camry driven by a 19-year-old Coventry resident suddenly passed the Jetta in a no passing zone, according to a report. The teen then lost control of the Camry, left the pavement and struck a "large boulder" in the yard of 280 Mile Hill Road, according to a report.

No injuries were reported and the teen was cited for illegal passing, state police said.
