TOLLAND, CT — After just more than two months on the Tolland Town Council, Republican Sophia Johnson is leaving office.

Johnson cited "Unforeseen personal circumstances" in her letter is resignation submitted Friday.

Johnson had relocated to Tolland from New York in February and in late April was appointed to the council to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Republican Council member Cassandra Forsythe-York.

York was sworn in April 2020 and served on the council for one year. She took the place of Robert Abbate Jr., who resigned from the council for personal reasons.

For about eight years, Johnson had served as the information specialist for the Incorporated Village of Freeport. Johnson managed the internal and external communications regarding Freeport Village, organized community events, and was a liaison with Freeport Village residents, businesses and government officials.

Johnson's term would have run until November.
