First Significant Snowfall Keeps Troop C Busy With Crashes

TOLLAND, CT — Tolland county experienced its first significant snowfall of the season Saturday and it kept state police from the Troop C barracks busy on the roadways.
Here's a timeline on the weather-related crashes state police responded to:
- 5:58 a.m.: In wet conditions, a 2013 Nissan Sentra went out of control and hot the concrete barrier on I-84 west in Vernon. No injuries were reported.
- 9:24 a.m.: A 2016 Subaru Outback hit an embankment off the right side of I-84 east in Union.
- 9:42 a.m.: A 2011 Honda pilot roller over after hitting an embankment on the eatbound side of I-84. Minor injuries were reported for the driver and two adult passengers.
- 10:04 a.m.: A 2018 Mazda CX5 traveling in the right lane of I-84 eastbound left the road and hit a tree about a half-mile west of Exit73. No injuries were reported.
- 11:35 a.m.: A 2020 Hyundai Elantra went "out of control" and struck a metal guardrail in the center Median on I-84 east in Willington. No injuries were reported.
- 12:42 p.m.: In heavy snow, a 2016 Toyota Corolla. on the westbound side of I-84 in Willington, hit a concrete barrier in the center median.
- 1:26 p.m.: A 2017 Mazda Cx-5 hit a utility polce after sliding off Gehring Road in Tolland. The driver reported a minor injury.
- 3:19 p.m.: A sedan and sport utility vehicle collided on Mile Hill Road in Tolland with no injuries.
- 3:49 p.m.: On Crystal Lake Road in Ellington, a commercial grade pickup and Jeep Compass collided near the Burbank Road intersection. No injuries were reported.
- 4:04 p.m.: A 2014 Jeep Cherokee swerved off Mansfield City Road in Mansfield and crashed into a tree stump. Non injuries were reported.
