TOLLAND, CT — It didn't take long for high winds to knock down wires in Tolland Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

The rain began late Monday morning and by the early afternoon, high gusts made those drops horizontal at some points.

The worst hit was the intersection of Dunn Hill Road and Tolland Stage Road. Two sets of wires came down, fire officials said.

Eversource Energy was reporting 1,879 people without power at 4 p.m. Seven hours later, the count was at 450.

Tolland Stage was passable, but Dunn Hill had to be closed to through traffic for repairs.
