Letter: Endorsing Plourd In Tolland

A Patch letter to the editor.

(Chris Dehnel/Patch)

TOLLAND, CT — To the Editor:

I’ve known Christina Plourd for over 35 years, and I ask that you support her on November 5 in her run for the Tolland Board of Education. I knew her as little Chrissy who lived next door, who picked raspberries from our bushes, and called me Auntie Carolyn.

I watched her grow up with a passion for science and math. I know her now as a supportive mother who reads to her 4-year-old son every night, while juggling the needs of her six month old daughter, all while working full time and volunteering in the community.

For 25 years I taught third grade at Parker School in Tolland. As a former elementary school teacher in Tolland, I was blessed with wonderful parental support. Keep up the great work parents! I foresee Chrissy being an active and positive participant in the community as her children grow up. She asked me what I thought would make a great board member, and I told her they should visit classrooms and make themselves visible. Be aware of the teachers’ contracts and cognizant of the curriculum. She has reached out to other towns for ideas and comparisons, and will continue to do so.

The platform that she is running on puts a focus on updating curriculum and bridging the gap between teachers and elected officials. She is open, kind, and will advocate for excellence.
