Report of Gunshots Leads To Charges In Tolland

TOLLAND, CT — Gunshots fired from a barn amid loud music in Tolland led to charges against a local man, state police said.

State police released a report on the Feb. 25 incident this week.

At 7:42 p.m. that day, state police went to the 100 block of Old Stafford Road to investigate report about shots being fired from a large barn, according to an arrest report.

Troopers heard "loud music" coming from the bard and saw a man and a woman inside the barn and the man was pointing an object outside the building, according to an arrest report.

As troopers approached the barn, the man first exited it, followed by the woman, according to an arrest report. They at first denied being involved in any shots being fired, but then admitted that several rounds were fired into a stump, state police said.

The man seemed to be intoxicated according to an arrest report.

State police eventually located multiple shell casings near a bar inside the barn and found a gun on a bar stool under a coat. A nearby stump had several bullet holes in it, according to an arrest report.

The man, identified as year old 58-year-old William Carter, was described as a "convicted felon in an arrest report. Carter was charged with charged with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and second-degree breach of peace.

He posted a $10,000 bond and is due on court on April 6, state police said.
