BREAKING: The National Weather Service has issued a new statement concerning wintry weather in the area.

TOLLAND COUNTY — The National Weather Service on Sunday afternoon issued a Special Weather Statement for Tolland County.
In the statement, the weather service said, "Rain will be changing to a period of wet snow across the east slopes of the Berkshires, Worcester Hills and possibly the hills in northeast Connecticut before ending between 7 and 9 pm this evening. Snow accumulations of a coating to 2 inches will be possible with the greatest risk for the higher amounts at elevations near and above 1500 feet.
"The wet snow may result in roads becoming snow covered and slippery for a time early this evening. Motorists should be prepared for slippery travel, especially above 1000 feet in
