TIS Students Show That Fire Prevention is for Everyone, Everyday

The students represented Tolland and Tolland County in the state fire prevention poster competition this spring.

The Tolland Fire Department would like to congratulate Tolland Intermediate School students Emily Bliss, Grade 4, and Katherine Bzowyckyj, Grade 5, on their award winning posters in the state Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Contest.

Emily and Katherine represented Tolland in the first round of judging and subsequently won the privilege to represent Tolland County at the state level.

At an awards luncheon on March 22 in Cromwell, Emily, Katherine and other county winners from around the state were recognized for their talent and creativeness.

The annual statewide competition for fourth and fifth graders is sponsored by The Connecticut Fire Marshals’ Association, Office of the State Fire Marshal, Connecticut Fire Chiefs’ Association, State Board of Education and the Connecticut FAIR Plan (representing the insurance industry).

The contest is themed FIRE PREVENTION – EVERYONE/EVERYDAY. Its purpose is to promote child and adult awareness of fire prevention responsibilities. Each year thousands of entries are submitted throughout the state.

All winning posters on the County level will be exhibited in various areas around the State, including the State Capitol during the year.
