Tolland Boys Three-Peat As State Cross Country Champions

The Eagle girls had a second-place team finish in the Class M meet at Wickham Park in Manchester.

MANCHESTER, CT — Effective pack running resulted in Tolland High School placing five athletes in the top 11 finishers to win its third straight Class M boys cross country championship Friday at Wickham Park.

The Eagles compiled 30 points to edge runner-up Suffield, which had 37.

Stephen Sutton, Jackson Cayward and Alec Sauter placed 3-4-5 to spearhead the team victory. Nathan Polangeli (7) and Jacob Gerow (11) also contributed significantly to the title win; all five Eagles finished within 15 seconds of each other.

In Class MM girls competition, Tolland took runner-up honors with 70 points, trailing Pomperaug's 39. Top 25 performances were turned in by Peyton Bornstein (3), Calista Mayer (8), Anna Roberts (17), Isabelle McNamee (19) and Kaitlyn Bedard (23).

The top two teams and 12 individuals from each class advance to the State Open, scheduled for Nov. 2, also at Wickham Park.
