Tolland People's United Branch Back Open Tuesday

TOLLAND, CT — The People's United Bank branch in Tolland was back open Tuesday after an abrupt closing the day before.

The bank is located at the Fieldstone Commons shopping plaza.

Customers were flocking the Lafayette branch in Vernon Monday afternoon, stating that the Tolland branch had closed without warning. A staffer at the Vernon branch, about a quarter-mile over the Tolland line and a good 15 minutes from the Tolland branch, said it was a staffing issue.

A bank spokesman Tuesday morning said he was looking into the matter.

On Tuesday morning, a staffer at the Tolland branch said the location had to be closed for "precautionary" reasons.

The timing of the closure came on the heels of a frustrating morning for customers. Bank cards were not working for the early part of the day because of a "system problem," Steven Bodakowski said.

The cards were working again by mid-morning, Bodakowski said.
