Tolland Woman Wins $25,000 Lottery Prize

Marie Schnakenberg of Tolland bought a second-place winning "$250,000 Cashword" ticket for her husband.

A Tolland woman stopped at a grocery store after work to pick up a few things, including a “$250,000 Cashword” instant game ticket.

Marie Schnakenberg gave the ticket to her husband, and the two of them soon uncovered nine complete words for the game’s second prize of $25,000, according to a news release.

“We went to a local convenience store just to make sure it was real,” Schnakenberg said in the release. “We were so excited; we were jumping around in the store in our PJ’s.”

Marie accepted the prize check for $17,081 after taxes at the lottery’s Rocky Hill headquarters.

Stop & Shop #613, 10 Pitkin Road in Vernon, sold the winning ticket, and the store will get a $250 check from CT Lottery as a reward, according to the release.

The game’s four top prizes of $250,000 have not yet been claimed, and three more second-place prizes of $25,000 are also available. CT Lottery reports the odds of winning a prize in the Cashword game are one in three.
