The United Congregational Church of Tolland held a special service of remembrance on November 10th at 1:00 PM.    This service honored and remembered  the Fallen Veterans in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, as well as all Veterans, and our brave men and women serving in the military today.    The United Congregational Church of Tolland was honored to host the Field of Flags on our front lawn for Veterans Day.   It has been sobering to realize that the 6,674 flags represent each fallen soldier killed in Iraq and Afganistan since 2002 when the program was begun at the Somers Congregational Church.
There were 181 people at the November 10th service at the United Congregational Church of Tolland.   The Tolland Fire Department Honor Guard led us in the opening ceremony.   The Boy Scouts then led us in the Pledge to the Flag , the Tolland High School Madrigal Singers sang three Patriotic songs and the 62 names of the fallen CT Veterans were read.   At the conclusion, all were escorted outside by Dee AC Smith of the Melha Shriners Highlanders.  As a Veteran, myself, I will always remember this moment as we stood in the midst of these waving flags for the playing of Taps.Â
