TOLLAND, CT — The Tolland Permanent Celebration Committee has scheduled a virtual tree lighting for Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.

As part of the virtual event, the Permanent Celebration Committee is inviting all Birch Grove and Tolland Intermediate school children to send a letter to Santa detailing why they would be best suited to help Santa light the tree this year. One child will be picked to light the tree with Santa and Mrs. Claus at a non-public event.

The ceremony will be videotaped and then posted on the Permanent Celebration Committee Facebook page. Creative and descriptive letters will also be featured on the Permanent Celebration Committee Facebook page with reading performed by Mrs. Claus and her elf helper, Olivia.

A goal of the holiday tree lighting event is to help the Tolland Food Bank with donations. Collection boxes will be placed at Wildflowers in Tolland, as well as Tolland Red & White.
