2 Injured In Rollover Crash On Merritt Parkway In Westport: FD
One of the occupants from the vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters.
WESTPORT, CT — Two people suffered injuries in a rollover crash on the Merritt Parkway in Westport on Sunday night, and one of the occupants had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to Westport Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen.
The one-vehicle crash occurred at about 8:35 p.m. in the left lane southbound just south of exit 42. State police closed the highway for about an hour while firefighters worked at the scene.
"Fire personnel checked the vehicle and confirmed that a single occupant was trapped in the vehicle," said Cohen. "A second occupant was able to climb out of the vehicle prior to units arriving."

Firefighters used stabilization tools and a combination of spreaders and cutters to remove the vehicles doors.
"Once extrication was complete, the vehicle began to smoke and subsequently caught fire," Cohen said. "Fire personnel extinguished the fire, which was isolated to the engine compartment."

The two occupants were transported to an area hospital by Westport EMS; their conditions were not immediately available.
The crash is under investigation by state police.
