Man Blows Red Light, Gets DUI in Westport

The Fairfield resident was arrested early Wednesday after refusing to take a breath test, police said.

Westport police charged Mark Hyde, 63, of Fairfield with operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to obey control signal, according to an arrest report.

Police initiated a traffic stop after Hyde failed to stop for the red light at the intersection of Post Road West and Riverside Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Hyde’s breath after speaking with him, police said.

Hyde failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He refused to take the breath test, police said.

Hyde was later released after posting a $250 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in State Superior Court in Norwalk May 6.
