Marpe: 'Pause, Reflect on JFK’s Powerful Impact'

First Selectman orders flags be flown at half-staff.

Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe has ordered that all U.S., State of Connecticut and Westport flags at Town facilities be flown at half-staff today, on the 50th Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

"Like so many Westporters of my age, I remember this day from 50 years ago and its impact on the nation and the world as if it were last week,” said Marpe. “One of my favorite quotes from JFK is: ‘Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.’”

“I encourage Westporters to pause for a moment of silence and reflect on the powerful impact that JFK had on our society,” said Marpe.
