A new playground will be built in Westport in celebration of the life of Dylan Hockley, a victim of the tragedy that took place last year at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, according to Westport Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Kepchar.
The playground will be built in the back of Long Lots Elementary School. It is one of 26 playgrounds being donated and built by the “Sandy Ground Project: Where Angels Play.” Construction will begin June 7, Kepchar said.
Each playground is designed to reflect the life of a victim of the Sandy Hook tragedy.
Assisting in the Westport Playground project will be “twenty six” workers comprised of Westport Firefighters, Police Officers, EMS personnel and teachers along with some members of the Hockley family. Jake Hockley, Dylan’s brother, will be the “foreman” of the job, Kepchar said.
