Senior Day Success for Staples Girls Golf

Team celebrates three seniors and win over Danbury

The Staples Girls’ Golf team has never lost a match on Senior Day.

The tradition of celebrating their seniors and always winning the match that day continued this season for the Staples Girls’ Golf Team with a 188-254 victory over a young Danbury squad at Longshore on May 11.

Leni Lemcke’s 3-over par 41 earned her medalist honors for the first six-out-of-seven matches. Fellow Junior Lizzie Kuehndorf supported Lemcke with a 49. Kuehndorf was coming off medalist honors the day prior----a 43 in the win versus Ridgefield. Par for the ladies from the white tees is a 38, so this was another impressive round.

Freshman Kathleen Coffey and sophomore Reilly McGeehan both shot their lowest match scores of the season with identical 47’s. Senior Co-Captains Linnea Jagenberg and Merin McCallum rounded out the starting lineup and scoring.

Jagenberg will be attending the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden, which is in the top 8% of the universities in the world. McCallum was accepted into the Honors Program at University of Michigan.

On injured reserve for the season is the team’s third senior, Camryn Zukowski, who will stay stateside, too, at the University of New Hampshire.

“The Varsity maintained their focus, despite all the pre-match festivities. It’s our favorite day of the season to salute our seniors,” said Coach Patty Kondub.

It’s all business the following two days for the Wreckers with back-to-back away FCIAC matches at division rivals Ridgefield and Greenwich.
