Westport Fends Off Washington Rally to Win Second World Series Game

The game at Williamsport's Lamade Stadium Sunday was a thriller. Westport will play again Wednesday in the U.S. semifinals.

Westport's run in the Little League World Series took a dramatic turn Sunday in the game against the Eastlake Little League team from Sammamish, Wash. -- but the boys from Connecticut still came out on top.

Westport entered the third inning up 7-0 after an explosive second inning, during which Washington's starting pitcher Jacob Dahlstrom was drilled in the leg on a line drive by Tatin Llamas and had to leave the game.

They tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning. Thanks to a strong outing from starting pitcher Harry Azadian, the score was 9-1 at the halfway point of the game.

But then Washington threatened -- big time.

Eastlake scored two runs in the fourth, and then another four runs in the bottom of the fifth, shrinking Westport's lead to 9-7. Alex Reiner, pitching in relief following a two-thirds inning effort from Charlie Roof, held Washington at bay with a one-two-three final inning that ended with a strikeout.
