It took Westport no time at all to get on the scoreboard. Chris Drbal -- Westport's first at-bat -- singled during his first plate appearance of the game. His team scored six runs in that inning alone, earning Drbal a second at-bat and another single before the bottom of the first ended.

Westport had another big inning in the third, when they scored five runs. Matt Stone started things off with a double. Max Popken and Chad Knight walked; Harry Azadian and Charlie Roof were each hit by a pitch.

Westport's pitching, on the other hand, proved to be another stellar effort. Azadian tossed three innings and gave up two runs, but struck out eight batters. Roof pitched two innings of relief and held Rye hitless for the rest of the game, striking out four.

The Connecticut State Champions get a day off tomorrow and will face the Newton South East team from Massachusetts at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
