A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy sustained minor injuries after his cruiser was hit by an intoxicated driver Monday night.
A Dover man was arrested Monday night after driving while intoxicated and crashing his SUV into the rear of a parked Hillsborough County Sheriff’s cruiser.
Deputy Jonathan Winters, 27, had activated his emergency lights while sitting inside his marked police car while working on an unrelated crash on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and North Forbes Road in Dover.
Just after 7 p.m., 40-year-old Joaquin Sanchez-Sanchez drove his 2007 Dodge Durango SUV into the back of the parked patrol vehicle.

An investigation revealed Sanchez-Sanchez, who was not injured, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.246, or more than three times the legal limit for Florida drivers. Sanchez-Sanchez was booked into Orient Road Jail and charged with DUI with Property Damage and Expired Driver’s License. He was later released after posting a $750 bond.
Winters was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries. He will spend the next few days at home recuperating with “minor bumps and bruising,” according to the sheriff’s office.
