Florida Slashes Price of Lifetime Sportsman's Licenses

The move to cut the fee in half pertains to licenses for those age 21 and younger.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott gave hunting and fishing enthusiasts an early holiday present Thursday by announcing a deeply discounted price on the state’s Lifetime Sportsman Licenses for a limited time.

Between Nov. 24 and Dec. 31, the price for this license that covers salt- and freshwater recreational fishing, hunting and most permits has been cut from $1,000 to $500. The discount only applies to youth licenses only, purchased for those age 21 and younger.

The move is designed to “introduce Florida’s youth to outdoor activities that instill conservation values,” Scott’s executive order states. It’s also meant to promote more outdoor time with families.

“Our state’s natural treasures give families wonderful opportunities for both fishing and hunting from the Panhandle to the Keys,” Scott was quoted in a media release about the move as saying. “This Lifetime Sportsman’s License will provide Florida’s youth with the opportunity to spend time outdoors with their families. Fishing and hunting are time-honored traditions in our state, and I encourage all Floridians to spend some time enjoying the great outdoors.”

The discounted license can be purchased at all Florida county tax collectors’ offices, online at License.MyFWC.com or by calling 1-888-347-4356. The price for a lifetime license for adults remains at $1,001.50, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s website.
