SUN CITY CENTER, FL — As positive coronavirus cases continue to climb in Hillsborough County, more residents are getting tested. However, receiving a coronavirus test isn't affordable for everyone.

Residents can take advantage of free rapid antigen testing at South Bay Hospital for an upcoming morning, according to the Riverview Chamber of Commerce. As of Tuesday, the Florida Department of Health reported 66,458 positive cases in Hillsborough County since March.

Free testing will be offered to the public for free Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at South Bay Hospital, 4016 Sun City Center Blvd.

According to Healthline, rapid antigen tests look for signs that a person has protein segments or antigens for SARS-CoV-2. Rapid testing is appealing because receiving fast results means a person knows sooner whether they need to isolate to avoid transmitting the virus to others.
