Hillsborough Canoe and Kayak Rentals: Another Park Added

Alderman's Ford Regional Park in Lithia becomes the seventh Hillsborough County park to offer canoe and kayak rentals. Rentals also are available in the Greater Brandon area at Edward Medard and Lithia Springs regional parks.

 

Alderman's Ford Regional Park has become Hillsborough County's seventh park to offer canoe and kayak rentals, and the third park to do so in the Greater Brandon area of Eastern Hillsborough County.

Four-hour rentals cost $25. There also is a $2 park entry fee for each vehicle carrying up to eight people, plus another $1 for each additional person. Payment only by cash, check and traveler's check are accepted at this time.

Alderman's Ford Regional Park in Lithia, at 9625 Canoe Launch Loop, is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the winter months.

Reacting to a popular visitor request, the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department started offering canoe and kayak rentals in Septmeber 2010.

To Rent A Canoe And Kayak At Hillsborough Parks

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must complete a liability release and rental agreement prior to payment at the entry station.
  • Canoes and kayaks can be rented on site at each entry station, except at Upper Tampa Bay Park, where rentals are conducted within the on-site envrionmental studies building.

Alderman's Ford Regional Park

This scenic regional park includes the area where the Alafia River branches into its north and south prongs. The Alafia River is one of the most popular canoe spots in the state. Several picnic areas are connected by a pedestrian/bicycle loop path. This path, together with the boardwalk and foot bridges, is perfect for a self-guided tour as it provides a first-hand view of Hillsborough County’s abundant flora. The main picnic area has nine shelters for family or group use, and an enclosed, air conditioned pavilion for large gatherings. All are available for rental by calling 635-3500, option 2.
