History Teacher Takes His Life After Arrest In Sex Sting

A former Strawberry Crest High School teacher died by suicide a day after his arrest on charges of soliciting nude photos from a "minor."

DOVER, FL — A former Strawberry Crest High School teacher took his own life Thursday, one day after police arrested him on accusations he solicited nude photos from minors via social media, WFLA reported.

Anthony Michael Peace, 37, a history teacher, began online conversations with an undercover detective with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office March 29, investigators said. Peace sent nude videos to whom he thought was a 14-year-old boy.

Authorities arrested Peace on May 19 on charges of transmission of harmful material to a minor, unlawful use of a two-way communications device and use of computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts.

He was released from the Hillsborough County Jail just before 1:30 a.m. on May 20 on bond and, took his own life later that day, jail records said.

Peace lost his job at the Hillsborough Public Schools District following his arrest. He had worked in the district for 15 years, and was a Plant City resident.
