Holmbergs Receive This Year's S.L. 'Spud' Clements Award

Paul and Tammy Holmberg were named the 2013 recipients of the S.L. "Spud" Clements Award, given annually at the Center Place Patron Party.

It's been said that it is difficult to separate Spud Clements "the man" from Spud Clements "the politician." Likewise, too, to separate from this year's winners of the S.L. "Spud" Clements Award the successful Brandon business people they are from the advid Center Place supporters they are known to be.

Paul and Tammy Holmberg are the 2013 recipients of the Spud Clements Award, given annually at the Center Place Patron Party. This year's "Surf's Up" event was held at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association, which shares space with the Brandon Regional Library in the Sandy Rodriguez Center at 619 Vonderburg Drive.

"Center Place is that little gem we have here in Brandon. It keeps the arts alive in Brandon," said Tammy Holmberg, who recently received as well the Alice B. Tompkins Community Service Award, from the Community Roundtable of Brandon; the Key Citizen Award, granted by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce; and the Laurie Ellis Community Advocate Award, granted by the YMCA.

The Holmbergs have been in business 15 years in Brandon, as owners of the Chick-fil-A restaurant on Causeway Boulevard, at Lake Brandon Village. They often are the first to volunteer with donations of food for community events. Tammy Holmberg is a past honorary mayor of Brandon and the founder of Charity Chicks, a group that is more than 200-women strong. Tammy Holmberg also served as a past president of the Center Place Board of Directors.

In announcing the award, Lisa Rodriguez, the center's marketing director, talked about how Paul Holmberg is strong supporter behind the scenes while his wife, Tammy, ventures into the community to build relationships.

The S.L. "Spud" Clements Award is given to an individual (in this case, a couple) or organization that has made significant contributions to Center Place, either monetarily or through the giving of time and efforts unselfishly.
