License-Free Saltwater Fishing Day Set for Saturday

It's one of the last license-free days of the year.

Florida residents ready celebrate summer’s end by casting a line don’t need to have fishing licenses to do so courtesy of an upcoming free pass day announced by the state.

One of the last license-free fishing days of the year, the Sept. 5 observance arrives just in time for Labor Day weekend fun. The license exemption only applies to saltwater fishing, but that does mean folks can take advantage of the start of red snapper season.

While those who take part in Saturday’s event don’t have to have licenses to do so, the state warns that all bag limits, seasons and size restrictions still apply. To brush up on the rules for casting lines in Florida waters, visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission online. The license waivers also apply to non-residents.
