Lightning Strikes Valrico Home, No One Injured

VALRICO, FL ? A Valrico home sustained smoke and structural damage after lightning struck it Thursday night.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue reported receiving a call at 7:33 p.m. from a resident saying one of their bedrooms was filling with smoke, reported the fire rescue.

Engine 18 arrived at the home on Windy Gap Place in Buckhorn Ridge and reported heavy smoke in the master bedroom on the home's second floor, according to the fire rescue.

Engine 18's quick action kept the fire between the first and second story in a small area of the master bedroom.

All residents were able to get out of the home safely, and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue reported there were no injuries.

The fire rescue determined that a lightning strike was the cause, according to a news release.
