Lights Out for Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade

The traditional nighttime parade at Walt Disney World will make its final appearance this fall.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents who want to take in Walt Disney World’s Main Street Electrical Parade may want to make the drive east before too much longer. The theme park has announced that the lights go out on the long-standing feature after its Oct. 9 run.

The parade made its Florida debut back in 1977 and has been an evening tradition at the park ever since. The parade puts a spotlight on Disney’s many animated features through the use of three-dimensional floats and an estimated half-million LED twinkling lights. Floats featured in the parade include a 23-foot tall clock tower over Cinderella’s ball, Pete’s Dragon and a 108-foot-long red, white and blue flag finale.

Disney announced its intentions to end the parade this fall on Wednesday. It offered no explanation for the decision, nor has it said if another closing-time display will take its place.
