The new building was developed on parcels owned by Hillsborough County. The cost for building the new office was just over $4 million.

County officials said owning this building, as opposed to continue renting in Strawberry Plaza, will save taxpayers about $300,000 per year.

The new building is more energy efficient with LED lighting, additional insulation and high-efficiency air conditioning units.

The lobby is also 30 percent larger than the current office.

"The timing of this office opening is ideal provided we are mandated to ensure our customers and staff are able to safely maintain social distancing while conducting business with our office," officials said.

When the new location opens, residents will be able to get driver licenses, pay property taxes, take a road test, renew registrations as well as obtain Florida birth certificates and hunting and fishing licenses.
