Old Neighborhoods, New Hydrants Targets Bryan, Bama Roads
A public meeting is set to discuss the yearlong installation of 92 fire hydrants and more than 4 miles of water lines to support firefighting efforts.

The project to install 92 fire hydrants and more than 4 miles of 6-inch water pipeline in the area of Bryan and Bama roads in Brandon is set to begin in September. A public meeting on the $1.8 million project is scheduled for Aug. 27, at the Bloomingdale Regional Library.
According to the Hillsborough County government website, construction will take place in the general area described as east of John Moore Road, north of Bracken Lane, west of Bell Shoals Road and south of Lumsden Road.
According to Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department officials, the project is expected to be completed within a year. The aim is to support firefighting capabilities. Â
The project reportedly "is part of a multi-year program to improve fire protection in older neighborhoods that don’t have enough fire hydrants by today’s development codes." It is "funded through the Public Utilities Department’s Fire Protection Improvement Master Program, a part of the Water Enterprise Capital Improvement Program."
