BRANDON, FL — This Fourth of July, more than 500 pets at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center are hoping for some independence of their own - independence from the shelter and into a permanent home.

The shelter is waiving adoption fees for dogs and cats one year or older between July 2 and 7. And in honor of the holiday, the shelter is waiving adoption fees on all dogs and cats for active-duty military, veterans and first responders. Every adopted pet will be going home with a free ID tag and three-month supply of flea prevention.

All pets adopted from PRC are vaccinated, registered, microchipped and spayed or neutered.

The Pet Resource Center will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. except on Thursday, July 4 when the shelter will be closed in observance of the holiday.

The Pet Resource Center is the only open-admission shelter in Hillsborough County, meaning it accepts all dogs and cats regardless of size, age, breed or medical condition, whether the shelter has available space or not. The shelter is at 440 N. Falkenburg Road.
