Salt Room Therapy Allergy Relief At New Valrico Location

VALRICO, FL — The Salt Room Valrico has brought a new kind of holistic therapy to the community. Local residents can relax in a salt room located in a state-of-the art facility.

The Salt Room Valrico opened in January. Salt therapy, otherwise known as halotherapy, is a salt based treatment that may have some health benefits for respiratory conditions, according to Medical News Today.

Salt therapy has its origins from the salt mines and caves of Eastern Europe. Modern dry salt therapy has its origins from the salt mines and caves in Europe and Russia, Salt Therapy Association said on its website.

A salt room is where a person can sit in a zero-gravity recliner for a 45-minute session. Every wall surface, including the floor, is covered with natural rock salt to create a sterilized and negative ion environment, according to Salt Room's website.

"As the salt travels in the salt room, these salt particles of dry sodium chloride are inhaled into the respiratory system," Salt Therapy Association reported. "The dry salt naturally starts absorbing allergens, toxins and foreign substances into your lungs and throughout your respiratory tract."

The staff at Salt Room Therapy said some of the benefits a person can receive from halotherapy include:

Rooms at the venue have the newest top-of-the-line halogenerators to crush pharmaceutical grade salt grains into small particles the size of 1 to 10 micrometers, its website said. Particles bigger than 5 micrometers can get caught in the nose and throat, according to Salt Room, while the smaller particles can penetrate deep into the lungs.
