Student Brought Loaded Gun To Hillsborough School: Sheriff
Authorities say a teacher smelled marijuana on the student, prompting administrators to search his bag, where they found a gun and ammo.
SEFFNER, FL — A student was arrested at a Hillsborough County school on charges of bringing a loaded gun to school. A release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says the 17-year-old brought the gun to Armwood High School Tuesday.
According to the release, on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m., a teacher smelled marijuana on teen and notified administrators, who searched his backpack.
There, they found a loaded M&P gun with one round in the chamber and a full magazine, the release says.

The sheriff's office says the gun belongs to the teen's parent, who didn't know he had taken it.
They found a scale in the teen's possession, but no marijuana in the bag, the release says.

The teen was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and carrying a concealed weapon.
"We will not tolerate any student bringing a loaded weapon on our school campuses. Hillsborough County Schools should be a safe place for students to learn without fear," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the release.
Chronister took the opportunity to remind parents about the importance of locking up guns.
“While this student made a very poor decision and must face the consequences for his actions, this is also a reminder for parents to properly secure their firearms. Your child should never have access to a deadly weapon," he said.
