Troopers Set To Inspect, Inquire at Roadway Checkpoints in January

Where will Florida Highway Patrol troopers be in January, at checkpoints throughout Hillsborough County, looking for driver's without licenses and vehicles with bad brakes, faulty lights and worn-out tires?

Troopers at Hillsborough checkpoints in January will be on the lookout for driver's without valid licenses and for poorly outfitted vehicles, including those with worn-out tires, bad brakes and faulty lights.

“The patrol has found these checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing the equipment and driver license laws of Florida while ensuring the protection of all motorists,” according to Sgt. Steve Gaskins of the Florida Highway Patrol.

The checkpoints are "random, daytime operations that typically delay motorists for a few minutes only," Gaskins added in a news release. Time, location and duration are set based on staffing, weather and traffic conditions, he added.
