Winn-Dixie To Replace Sweetbay Moniker At Area Supermarkets

Remember Kash n’ Karry? It’s time now to forget, too, its successor moniker, Sweetbay, the name that is set to give way to Winn-Dixie.

That’s the word today, Oct. 8, from Bi-Lo Holdings LLC, the parent company of the BI-LO and Winn-Dixie supermarket chains, whose officials announced in a press release their intent to drop the Sweetbay name and convert to the Winn-Dixie banner.

In May 2013, Bi-Lo Holdings and Delhaize entered into a definitive agreement under which Bi-Lo Holdings would acquire "substantially all of the stores in the Sweetbay, Harveys and Reid's supermarket chains from Delhaize,” according to the release.

The overall transaction is set to close in the first quarter of 2014, pending regulatory approvals.
