Boxing Glove Super-Glued To Wrist, Mom Punches Student: Police

A Florida mom who claimed a single boxing glove was glued to her hand joined her daughter in an attack on a 12 year-old girl, police said.

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Edith Riddle walked into a Florida middle school last week with a boxing glove she claimed was stuck to her left wrist with Super Glue and joined her daughter in punching another girl, Jacksonville police said.

The 34-year-old Jacksonville mother has been charged with one count of child abuse with a personal or special weapon, according to a report by news stations WTLV/SJXX. She was arrested by a Duval County School Police resource officer Thursday after the fight at Dupont Middle School, the report said.

Riddle and her daughter had been in a meeting with the school’s vice principal and, rather than leave the campus directly, Riddle’s teenage daughter went out of her way to the cafeteria, where she pushed another girl to the floor and began throwing punches at her, the report said.

The 12-year-old girl targeted in the assault told the news station she is now “scared most of the time.” Her knees and arms were bruised in the assault, and she was taken to a local hospital for a follow-up evaluation by a parent, who asked police to file criminal charges against Riddle, the report said.

Crystal Wiltsee, the girl’s mother, wants to know why anyone was able to walk in the front door of the school wearing boxing gloves.

“I put the school to blame just as much as her, because had they escorted the lady off the property when they showed up to the school in boxing gloves … ,” Wiltsee told WJAX/WFOX. “That’s not normal.”

Riddle posted bond and was released from jail Saturday, according to reports.
