Escapee Caught In Orange Park: Report

Deputies were searching for the escapee Christmas morning near Orange Park Medical Center, according to reports.

ORANGE PARK, FL — A Christmas morning escapee has been caught in Orange Park following an hours-long search, according to a news report. The Clay County Sheriff's Office said at 8:46 a.m. Wednesday there was an active investigation near Orange Park Medical Center, 2001 Kingsley Ave. in Orange Park.

Deputies were on scene and there was no threat to the community in the area, sheriff's officials said.

About two-and-a-half hours later, at 11:11 a.m., an Action News Jax reporter said the investigation involved searching for an inmate, and that the inmate had since been found.

The sheriff's office said in a statement that early Christmas morning, a deputy escorted a retail-theft suspect to the hospital, according to Action News Jax.

"The suspect who was medically cleared from the Orange Park Medical Center was able to break free from our deputy and escape on foot. A perimeter was immediately set up and the suspect was re-apprehended and transported to jail."
