PASCO COUNTY, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident Sunday on Interstate 75 in Pinellas County in which a car that was stopped in the middle of the highway was struck by a Tampa police patrol car.

At 7:24 a.m. a 34-year-old man from Orlando stopped his car in the northbound lane of I-75 and was struck from behind by a 27-year-old Tampa police officer driving a police cruiser.

The impact caused the police cruiser to strike a third car driven by a 32-year-old Tampa man. The man driving the first car sustained minor injuries.

Troopers suspect the driver who was stopped on the highway was impaired. Charges against him are pending.
