Help Coming for Lutz, Lake Magdalene Area Flooding Woes
The Southwest Florida Water Management District has stepped forward to offer $400,000 toward Hillsborough County's efforts.

Hillsborough County has announced its approval of a funding agreement with the Southwest Florida Water Management District that may help bring flooding relief to two communities.
The County Commission gave a green light Wednesday that paves the way for $400,000 in funding from the agency to assist with Lynette Drive and Bearss Avenue drainage improvements.
The Lynette Drive project is meant to relieve flooding between Layne Place and Duque Road by enlarging a pond that already exists in the area. This aim is to enhance water quality while also providing for more storage. In addition, the existing underground drainage will be upgraded to enable better water flow to a series of ponds and wetlands in the area.

The project will use up to $200,000 of the Swiftmud funding. It is expected to be completed in the winter of 2016.
The Bearss Avenue project involves the area between Lake Magdalene and Lake Emerald boulevards. It entails upgrading the existing roadway crossings on Bearss Avenue from Lake Magdalene to Lake Emerald. In addition, an existing pond will be modified and a new pond constructed. That project is hoped to reach completion by the late summer of 2016.
